Appalachian One Stop Workforce Center announces State Certification

The Southwest Virginia Workforce Development Board would like to announce that the Appalachian One Stop Workforce Center in Richlands has achieved state certification.   The Appalachian One Stop Workforce Center is the first certified One Stop Workforce Center to serve the local region.

“The Center took a lot of hard work, but the result is a well-equipped, welcoming place where job seekers and businesses alike can find resources for training and employment,” said SWVA WDB Executive Director, Aleta Spicer.

The Appalachian One Stop Workforce Center houses state workforce partners including People Inc. WIOA programs, Southwest Regional Adult Education, Virginia Employment Commission, and the Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services. Other workforce partners also provide part-time office hours in the facility.  The Appalachian One Stop Workforce Center provides workforce services to job seekers and businesses across the region. Recently, the SWVA WDB received a grant from United Way of Southwest Virginia to open a Financial Empowerment Network in the facility to provide financial literacy services to families and individuals in the region.

To achieve certification, the One Stop was required to meet rigorous criteria that proved that the facility could provide comprehensive workforce services to both job seekers and businesses in the region.

“It is such a pleasure to work with professionals that are so dedicated to the citizens and communities of Southwest Virginia. The Appalachian One Stop strives to become the hub for businesses and community members and provide support to achieve goals and success,” said Tiffanie Goff, SWVA Workforce Center Manager.

The SWVA WDB is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). The SWVA WDB offers re-employment and training programs designed to assist adults, dislocated workers, and youth to enter high-demand occupations and to gain livable wages within their geographical areas. The service region includes Tazewell, Russell, Dickenson, Buchanan, Lee, Scott, Wise counties, and the city of Norton.
